character showing up in files. How to remove them?

You can easily remove them using vim, here are the steps:

1) In your terminal, open the file using vim:

vim file_name

2) Remove all BOM characters:

:set nobomb

3) Save the file:

:wq

所谓 BOM，全称是Byte Order Mark，它是一个Unicode字符，通常出现在文本的开头，用来标识字节序 （Big/Little Endian），除此以外还可以标识编码（UTF-8/16/32），如果出现在文本中间，则解释为zero width no-break space yum install dos2unix -y
