Windows XP于2001年发布。对Windows XP的支持还将继续，但是Service Pack 2将于2010年7月13日结束支持。至此，微软将不再提供对Windows XP SP2免费安全更新。需要获得Windows XP平台持续的技术支持，需要安装Windows XP SP3.
不包含Service Packs的Windows Vista将于2010年4月13日结束支持，如果需要在Windows Vista平台的持续支持，必须安装Windows Vista Service Packs 2.
