The
result of the main characters draws to the theme of the movie, rules and
powerlessness to defend the rules. The old Sheriff is the old man who cherishes
the old rule and old days when police officers had no need to bring guns when
they patrolled, but he could not catch the killer. The hunter is a cowboy who obeyed
some of the principles of cowboys in the old Westerns, but he was killed unaccountably.
The killer, one who obeyed rules least of the three, was crashed because he
obeyed the traffic rules. In some ways, all of them are the old men in the
title, so who are the young men? The director told us by the Sheriff’s words:
young men with green hair, bones in nose, and the two boys arguing about the
money in the end of the movie.
